The new tech and quant teams banks are growing in 2025

An improved economic outlook for 2025 means many investment banks are growing their teams, but it's not just the investment bankers benefitting. Multiple banks are either building out new teams for quants and technologists or growing relatively new ones. It may come as no surprise that the big focus of a lot of newer tech teams in banking is either AI or governance (or both).

The most prominent new tech team looking to grow is the Gen AI platform team at Citi. The bank hired founding engineers in the team earlier this year, and is continuing to hire, with an opening for a VP in New York paying a salary of up to $265k. According to its current listing, the team is still in the "zero to one" phase, and is looking for prolific coders with over a decade of expertise.

JPMorgan is building a new quantitative research team for the payments division of its Commercial and Investment Bank. It's hiring for associates in New York and London who will work on "optimizing Net Interest income and client pricing." The bank is looking for masters or PhD graduates with machine learning expertise, and is paying salaries of up to $200k.

UBS is building a new cybersecurity team with a focus on emerging technologies and crypto. The bank is hiring a security specialist to safeguard its digital assets and develop security and governance frameworks, acting as an advisor to CISO Rob Wainright.

Another governance-focused new team is the global technology service management team at Bank of America. It's hiring a lead developer to integrate ServiceNow, an NVIDIA-partnered platform focused on integrating generative AI agents.
