Christina Lo joined Qube this month as a compliance director, based in Hong Kong. She was a director of compliance for APAC in the city for hedge fund Schonfeld before that, and spent over five years for the London-headquartered firm before joining Qube.
The other new face was Raymond Ha, who also joined this month as a compliance director, also based in Hong Kong. He joined Qube from Dutch electronic trading firm Optiver, where he spent just two years as a senior compliance officer before leaving.
Qube’s rapid 2024 expansion therefore doesn’t seem to have slowed down. This year so far in Hong Kong, it’s already added Omar Haq as CTO courtesy of Citadel, and Francois Jeulin courtesy of Citadel Securities, where he was the market maker’s global head of arbitrage.
Qube's Hong Kong office was one of its first, having been part of its spin-off from Credit Suisse in 2017. It had around 150 employees in the city at the end of last year, making up around half of its total APAC presence. Its APAC presence is led by Eric Taro Hornmark, who has been with the team since its Credit Suisse days.
Despite its wild growth in recent years, pay at Qube is a bit odd. The firm operates a similar principle to Jane Street’s “communism”, with bonuses discretionary and not based on individual performance. “This is the worst I've been paid in my career,” one insider told us, despite the vast profits generated by the firm.
