Some London traders got a temporary New York boss. Two more left

Mizuho has been parting company with some of its senior traders in London. We noted in April that various people had disappeared from the Japanese bank's credit trading team. Now we understand that another two have vanished.

The latest exits are understood to be Jon Oakley, a managing director and head of loans sales and trading who joined in 2022 from Invesco, and Chris Nias, a securitized products trader who joined in 2019 from Credit Suisse.

Oakley and Nias are the latest in a series of departures from Mizuho's London fixed income business that include Asif Godall, Mizuho's most senior trader in Europe. Godall officially left in May 2026 for other opportunities, the nature of which is soon expected to become clear. Previous exits included Hardeep Bariana, Aristo Vounakis, Mostafa Ismail, Joseph Rock, Bader Barghoti and David Ceruti.

Mizuho declined to comment for this article, but following Godall's amicable exit, insiders say Mizuho appointed David Moore as interim head of global markets for EMEA. Moore is on secondment from New York, where he was leading Mizuho's US macro trading business after joining from BNP Paribas in 2022. He reputedly flies over to London each month. Oakley and Nias left on his watch.

Moore reports to Thomas Hartnett, Mizuho's co-deputy head of markets and head of fixed income for EMEA. Hartnett is understood to be driving the creation of a single global markets platform to serve clients.

It's not clear whether Mizuho will hire more people as it drives this platform. Moore is only a stopgap appointment while Mizuho searches for a successor to Godall, so it seems that at least one extra recruit is likely. Mizuho also has possible internal candidates like Vikram Dadlani, who joined from Deutsche Bank in late 2025 and who might have wanted Godall's seat.

Mizuho's London credit business hasn't always been profitable. It made a large loss in 2020, for example.
