JPMorgan paying $3k per week for 2025 interns in its hottest AI team

Applied AI research specialists are a hot commodity, but there are only so many to go around. JPMorgan's trying to fix that problem for itself by hiring AI specialists at junior level.

The bank has open listings for 2025 AI research summer associates in both London and New York. Interns will participate in research projects focused on applying AI at the firm.

The New York internship pays a salary of up to $155k. This means weekly pay of just under $3k per week. This is in line with pay for 2024's applied research interns, who were focused on augmented and virtual reality technologies.

The problem is... you won't be joining this team as an undergraduate, or even with a masters. These internships are focused on PhD computer scientists, but will also consider masters students. JPMorgan prefers the applicants to be published in prominent AI journals.

It's not just interns the applied AI team is hiring for. Earlier this month, it started recruiting for a senior associate in New York to work on implementing AI agents, which are programs within LLMs that optimize them for specific tasks. This role is for an early career PhD graduate, or a masters graduate with over three years of experience. The role pays a salary of up to $195k.

JPMorgan has had some difficulty hiring (and retaining) certain AI roles, and the applied team is no exception. One open listing, for a lead software engineer paying up to $215k in New York, has yet to be filled despite being posted in July.
