Jefferies hired a buy side executive in France and moved him to London

French alternative asset manager Tikehau Capital has been emerging as one of the top European buy-side firms to work for. It's leading a charge into European defence deals in PE, but the firm's deputy CEO won't be sticking around for the ride.

Frederic Giovansili has left Tikehau in Paris to join Jefferies in London and lead the bank's private credit strategy. He initially joined Tikehau as deputy CEO of its French investment management subsidiary in 2019, but became deputy CEO of the whole firm two years ago while still based in France.

Giovansili previously spent 19 years in banking before switching to Tikehau. He started at Merrill Lynch, became head of markets for France, Belgium and Luxembourg at Citi, then was poached by Nomura to set up a credit trading desk.

Jefferies has hired more than 50 MDs from rival banks in Europe over the past five years, and it compensates them handsomely. Its UK material risk-takers (MRTs) earned an average compensation of $2m last year, more than the likes of Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan.
