Citadel's London partners include some brilliant 30-somethings

As we reported this week, hedge fund Citadel has released accounts for its UK entities. At Citadel Hedge Fund Management Europe LLP, 23 partners shared nearly $500m in profits for last year. That's an average of just over $20m each.

What does it take to become a partner at Citadel in London? The list of senior names associated with Citadel Hedge Fund Management Europe LLP suggests that it helps - predictably - to be a portfolio manager. You don't, however, necessarily need to have many grey hairs.

This year, Citadel nominated four new people in London as "persons of significant control," or partners in London. They will all born after 1990.

The youngest of the new partners was 32-year-old Jin Thed, an associate portfolio manager on the EU gas desk who joined from Squarepoint in 2021. Thed has a first class degree from the London School of Economics and a MPhil in economics from the University of Oxford.

Also promoted was: Francesco Chincoli, a 34-year-old ex-Morgan Stanley rates trader and Bocconi graduate; Jake Bowerbank, a 33-year-old seeming commodities trader at Oxford chemistry graduate; and Andreas Walbert, a 35-year-old German equities portfolio manager who previously worked for Millennium and Goldman Sachs. 

While these are Citadel's newest London partners (who may earn below the average), the fund also has an array of older hands. They include the likes of Drew Gillanders, the fund's top man in London, who runs the equities business, Andrew Bound a former Goldman Sachs MD and rates trader, and Chris Foster, the European head of gas trading.  

One of Citadel's London partners, Eike Schick, left recently to study psychology at UCL. Another, Sebastian Yoshida, left to join start-up equity neutral hedge fund Ilex Partners. Another senior portfolio manager, Alexander Mccaffery, is also no longer listed as a London partner as of July 2025. Bloomberg reported that Mccaffrey has gone to Taula Capital to join Diego Media.

Notably absent from Citadel's partner list are women. There are no women listed. Nor are there any women among the firm's 25 current officers in London. This may be because only UK citizens are eligible to partners: senior American women working in London are not able to take these roles.
