Most recently the vice chairman of global banking at HSBC in London, Parsons is joining Deutsche Bank as executive chairman of origination and advisory.

It is not the first time he's worked for the German bank in London. Parsons also worked for the bank between 2005 and 2012, and was the head of UK M&A from 2007. He left after leading a failed bid for G4S to buy private equity rival ISS which pulled at the last minute and cost G4S £50m.

Upon Deutsche Bank in 2012, Parsons was head of Europe for Greenhill. HSBC then hired him, but HSBC is closing its M&A and equity capital markets businesses in Europe and Deutsche presumably spied an opportunity to reinstate him.

Parsons' arrival comes after Deutsche parted company with Henrik Johnsson, its former co-head of global capital markets last week. Insiders suggest Henrik was sidelined when Alison Harding-Jones was appointed co-head of investment banking in February when his sponsor Mark Fedorcik stepped down. With Johnsson gone, sources say the bank needed to increase its UK banking firepower as a result.

Deutsche Bank declined to comment.

Parsons has worked in banking since at least 1998. In June, Deutsche Bank hired Dan Bailey, HSBC's former global head of technology, media and telecommunications banking.
