New York fintech growing in London seemingly paid $445k each to earliest hires

Prime brokerage fintech Clear Street has been rapidly hiring, both in its New York headquarters and abroad. The firm's UK contingent is growing particularly fast and, if its earliest employees are any indication, it's paying new hires pretty well.

'Clear Street UK Limited' released accounts last month for 2024 via Companies House. They revealed that the subsidiary had just three employees on average during the year, but paid a total of $1.34 in 'salaries and wages,' equating to average compensation of $445k per head. (£333.8k)

Who were Clear Street's earliest employees? The main entity's directors include, ex-G-Research chief of staff Jacinda Fahey, who joined in 2023 to lead the UK office. UK finance director Carlos Fernandez, who joined in February last year, is also a director, as is chief compliance officer Tracy Mills, who joined in November.

Clear Street's UK office is now much more than three people, and last year's compensation figure spending may have been elevated by late year hires. Clear Street was authorized with the FCA in the UK last October and has since accrued 22 associated individuals with vigorous hiring. Most of these are in client dealing, but four are also registered as algorithmic traders. Eight of them joined in 2025. Not included in the list is Matthew Cousens, the ex-Citi MD who recently joined as its EMEA head of algorithmic execution, and Malcom Pratt, an ex-BofA sales MD, also joining Clear Street's exeucution team. It seems that Clear Street now has around 44 employees in the UK, just under 10% of global headcount.

Clear Street moved offices in London two months ago. It was previously based in a WeWork near Bank station but migrated in March to the second floor of 1 Bartholomew Lane. A previous listing for that office space confirms that the floor has 88 desks, suggesting Clear Street intends to eventually double its UK presence.

Clear Street has 10 open job listings in London out of 45 total openings. Among those roles is a senior frontend engineer working on its portfolio management platform, Clear Street Studio. All open roles in London are hybrid, requiring three days in the office per week.

Clear Street also has a second 'services' subsidiary that released accounts last October, but did not disclose headcount figures.
