Barclays isn't commenting but multiple sources tell us that George Toynbee is on his way there instead. People at the British bank seem excited about this on the grounds that Toynbee is a really great guy.
Toynbee will join the Barclays European Government Bond trading team which lost multiple traders last year, including Ankur Aneja, one of the top MDs in its business. Barclays also hired two up-and-coming female EGB traders in the form of Lucile Flight and Lauren Brown last September. They will be Toynbee's colleagues.
Toynbee is both "an exceptional trader and an exceptional human being" in the words of one former DB colleague. He spent three and a half years at the bank after joining from Morgan Stanley in 2023.
