Senior Wordings Specialist
London | Permanent | Hybrid
If you're the person underwriters call when a clause doesn't quite sit right, and you'd rather sharpen a wording than just sign it off, this role could suit you well.
My client, a well-established global specialty insurer and reinsurer in the London Market, is looking for a Senior Wordings Specialist to join its Contract Wordings team. It's a small, close-knit group with a strong reputation in the business. They're the experts underwriters and claims colleagues rely on to get the contract language right.
At a glance
Some days you'll be designing a new product with underwriters and Legal. Other days you'll be talking a broker through a tricky negotiation, or reviewing a binding authority or lineslip and giving clear, practical advice on what needs to change. The team cares about being solution-focused, so the aim is always to help the business write good risk with confidence, not to slow it down.
The role also reaches well beyond day-to-day reviews. You'll help set the standards the business reviews wordings against, run training sessions for colleagues, sit in on underwriting and claims meetings, and represent the business externally, including at the Lloyd's Market Association. The team is also keen to use AI to make wordings review faster and more consistent. If you're curious about how technology can improve the craft, you'll have real room to shape that.
About you
You'll have built your expertise in a wordings or legal environment. That might be a dedicated wordings team, claims, a legal function or a technical Underwriting or Broking role. You'll know London Market wordings well, ideally in one or more of Cyber, Marine, Energy or Construction, and some exposure to Aviation or other classes would be a bonus. You're precise and well organised, you stay calm when deadlines tighten and priorities shift, and you'll happily question how things are done when there's a better way.
You'll also be comfortable with the regulatory side of the role, working within the Lloyd's and FCA frameworks and keeping good customer outcomes at the centre of what you do.
What's in it for you
This is a chance to make a visible impact in a business that values its people and invests in their development. You'll be part of an inclusive, collaborative culture with flexible working that supports a healthy balance, along with a competitive salary and benefits package.
My client welcomes applications from people of all backgrounds within the market.
If interested, please reach out to Jordan.McKenna@bruinfinancial.com for a discreet chat.
