Description & Requirements

1. Position Summary

The Instructional Designer designs, develops and maintains high-quality, role-relevant learning content and assessment experiences that upskill underwriting and related teams across APAC. Working closely with the Head of Training & Development, product SMEs, CUOs and platform teams, this role turns underwriting strategy, product changes and system releases into scalable blended-learning solutions (e-learning, virtual/classroom workshops, case studies, assessments and job-aids) that drive measurable behaviour change and certification outcomes.

2. Key Responsibilities
Learning Design & Development
• Analyse capability needs and translate them into clear learning objectives and measurable outcomes in line with the APAC underwriting competency framework.
• Design and build blended learning solutions: microlearning, e-learning, facilitator guides, virtual workshops, case-based learning, simulations and assessments.
• Create practical job aids, role checklists, quick reference guides and scenario libraries that support on-the-job learning and delegated decision-making.
Content Management & Curation
• Maintain and version-control a central curriculum library (SharePoint/LMS), ensuring content is up-to-date with product, system and regulatory changes.
• Curate and adapt global learning assets for APAC markets, localising where required for regulatory or market nuance.
Assessment & Certification Support
• Design robust assessments and pass/fail criteria linked to role-based certification levels; collaborate with managers on on-the-job assessment rubrics and observational checks.
• Support periodic review and validation of certification standards and re-certification requirements.
Learning Technology & Production
• Develop e-learning using authoring tools (those used by Liberty or where applicable Articulate 360, Captivate, Rise or equivalent) and coordinate media production (video, animations, interactive scenarios).
• Work with LMS admin to publish courses, configure learning paths, automate enrollments and ensure tracking for compliance and reporting.
• Ensure learning content is compliant, mobile-friendly and accessible.
Stakeholder Engagement & SME Collaboration
• Partner with Underwriting SMEs, Product, Technology, Claims and Legal/Compliance to convert technical content into applied learning experiences.
• Run SME workshops to extract real case examples, acceptance criteria and assessment materials.
• Liaise with country learning leads and managers to pilot content and refine for local adoption.
Evaluation & Continuous Improvement
• Implement Kirkpatrick-style evaluation: collect learner feedback, measure behaviour change and connect learning outcomes to KPIs (time-to-productivity, reduced exceptions).
• Maintain a content improvement backlog informed by adoption scorecards, business feedback and system/product changes.
Project & Vendor Management
• Manage small-medium design projects end-to-end, maintaining schedules, budgets and quality standards.
• Coordinate external vendors (video producers, voice-over artists, specialist facilitators) when required and ensure deliverables meet quality and compliance needs.

4. Experience & Qualifications
• 3-6+ years' experience in instructional design, preferably in financial services or insurance; familiarity with underwriting content is highly desirable.
• Demonstrable experience authoring e-learning with Articulate 360, Captivate, Rise or similar tools used by Liberty and producing blended learning experiences.
• Practical experience designing assessments, rubrics and certification programs.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to translate technical content into applied learning.
• Comfortable working with SMEs, business stakeholders and technology teams in a matrixed environment.
• Tertiary qualification in education, instructional design, learning & development, HR, business or related discipline preferred.
5. Technical Skills & Tools
• Proficient in e-learning authoring tools (Articulate, Captivate, Rise or equivalent).
• Familiarity with LMS platforms (Cornerstone, Moodle, Docebo, Workday Learning or similar) and e-learning standards.
• Competent with multimedia production basics (storyboarding, video briefs, audio scripting).
• Advanced use of PowerPoint, Word, Excel and collaboration tools (SharePoint/Teams).
