The Role
We are seeking a
Principal Analyst to lead our South Asia Power & Renewables research practice in Gurugram, India. This is a senior leadership role responsible for shaping the regional research agenda, managing and mentoring a team of analysts, overseeing power market modelling and research outputs, and serving as a trusted advisor to clients across the energy sector.
The successful candidate will bring deep expertise in South Asian power markets and be responsible for driving high-quality research, market analysis, policy and regulatory insights, and long-term market outlooks. They will play a central role in ensuring our research remains at the forefront of industry developments, helping clients navigate the evolving power sector landscape and supporting strategic decision-making across generation, renewables, storage, transmission, and power markets.
As a Principal Analyst, you will lead research and analysis across five core areas:
- Defining and executing the South Asia power market research agenda, identifying key themes, emerging trends, and strategic market developments.
- Leading market research and analysis to track supply, demand, investment, technology, and commercial trends across South Asian power markets.
- Overseeing policy and regulatory analysis, assessing the impact of market reforms, capacity mechanisms, ancillary markets, renewable integration policies, transmission developments, and decarbonization initiatives.
- Guiding the development and application of regional power market models to produce robust price, generation, emissions, storage, and technology outlooks.
- Translating market intelligence and model outputs into compelling insights, thought leadership, and client-facing research that informs strategic investment and commercial decisions.
The role requires significant interaction with clients and industry stakeholders. You will lead client briefings, respond to complex market questions, present research findings, and support commercial activities through thought leadership and relationship management. You will also work closely with our global research, modelling, and consulting teams to ensure consistency and excellence across our analytical offerings.

Key Responsibilities
Research Leadership & Thought Leadership
- Lead the South Asia power market research agenda and identify strategic research priorities.
- Develop market views and analytical frameworks covering power, renewables, storage, flexibility, transmission, and decarbonization.
- Produce and oversee high-impact research publications, market outlooks, thematic reports, and thought leadership pieces.
- Ensure research outputs remain relevant, commercially valuable, and aligned with evolving client needs.
- Represent the company externally through industry conferences, webinars, workshops, and media engagements.
Market Analysis & Modelling
- Oversee power market modelling activities and ensure analytical robustness across market forecasts and scenarios.
- Guide analysis of power demand, generation, renewable deployment, storage economics, transmission, and market prices.
- Evaluate the implications of regulatory changes, policy developments, and market reforms on future market outcomes.
- Drive continuous improvement in modelling methodologies, assumptions, and analytical processes.
Team Leadership & Development
- Manage, mentor, and develop a team of analysts and senior analysts.
- Provide technical guidance, quality assurance, and professional development support.
- Foster a collaborative and high-performance team culture.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, training, and capability-building initiatives.
Client Engagement & Commercial Support
- Act as a senior point of contact for client questions and market inquiries.
- Lead client briefings, presentations, workshops, and strategic discussions.
- Translate complex market developments into clear and actionable insights for clients.
- Support business development activities, including proposals, client meetings, and commercial discussions.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, industry participants, regulators, and policymakers.
Quality Assurance & Research Excellence
- Review and approve research outputs, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and analytical rigor.
- Maintain high editorial standards across regional publications.
- Identify opportunities to enhance research products, modelling capabilities, and client offerings.
- Ensure research processes and methodologies remain industry-leading.

Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Economics, Energy Studies, Finance, Public Policy, Mathematics, or a related discipline.
- 10+ years of experience within a utility, power developer, consultancy, research provider, market intelligence company, university, think tank, investment firm, or other energy-focused organization.
- Deep expertise in Indian power markets and strong knowledge of broader South Asian electricity markets.
- Proven experience leading research projects, market analysis, forecasting, or consulting engagements.
- Demonstrated experience managing and mentoring analysts or research teams.
- Strong quantitative and analytical capabilities, including power market modelling, commercial analysis, or market forecasting.
- Experience with optimization and dispatch models such as Plexos, Aurora, SDDP, or equivalent tools is highly desirable.
- Strong experience working with large datasets, databases, APIs, and analytical tools including Python, SQL, and Power BI/Power Query.
Knowledge & Skills
- Deep understanding of power market fundamentals and renewable energy market dynamics.
- Strong knowledge of electricity market design, generation economics, transmission systems, storage technologies, and market reforms.
- Expertise in policy and regulatory frameworks across India and South Asia.
- Strong understanding of capacity markets, ancillary services, power purchase agreements, renewable support mechanisms, grid integration challenges, and energy transition pathways.
- Familiarity with investment decision-making, market risk assessment, and commercial strategy within power markets.
- Ability to connect technical analysis with commercial and strategic implications for clients.
Communication & Stakeholder Engagement
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Proven ability to write, review, and edit high-quality research reports and client-facing publications.
- Strong presentation skills and confidence engaging with senior stakeholders and executive audiences.
- Experience leading client briefings, workshops, webinars, and conference presentations.
- Ability to explain complex modelling outputs and market developments clearly and concisely.
- Fluency in additional South Asian languages is an advantage.
