Assistant General Counsel – EU Regulatory

Location: Frankfurt am Main, Hessen, Germany

The Role / Responsibilities
  • The role would have three main constituents: (1) EU Regulatory; (2) EU Projects; (3) EU Supervisory Boards Support.
  • EU Regulatory : the primary focus of this role will be to provide legal advice on EU27 regulatory matters, including:
    • Advising on EU CRA Regulation
    • Advising on other EU regulatory laws that impact Moody's business
    • Supporting Compliance with regulatory examinations and investigations
    • ESMA enforcement actions
    • Legal review where required of reporting and disclosure items such as EU Transparency Report
  • EU Projects : Legal contact on company projects in the EU27 such as:
    • New office set-ups / closures
    • Opening and closing of branches
    • Corporate reorganisations
    • Regulatory implementation projects
  • EU Supervisory Board Support : Assisting Division General Counsel - EMEA with legal aspects of all EU Supervisory Board Matters, including:
    • Preparation of Legal slides and talking points
    • Legal review of board packs and materials
    • Review of minutes
    • Following up on Legal action items
    • Where required, coordination with Senior Management and other internal groups and external Independent Members
  • Liaising with and managing external counsel on all the above matters.
  • Development of standard operating protocols and guidance notes.
  • Preparing and delivering presentations to internal staff on legal issues relevant to business.

Qualifications
  • Strong academic record
  • Degree in law or other relevant discipline, plus in latter case Graduate Diploma in Law or local equivalent
  • Legal Practice Course or local equivalent
  • Qualified to practice law in an EU27 member state
Experience
  • Significant experience working in a leading private practice law firm or relevant in-house role with demonstrable experience in EU regulatory matters. Ideally with in-house experience. Experience working at or with a regulator would be very useful.
  • Experience working in an international environment
  • Experience working with senior individuals
  • Experience dealing with board matters
  • Experienced in negotiation
  • Knowledge of financial services products / markets
