Trados Specialist and English-to-French Translator/Reviser

Location: Montreal, QC, Canada

The Role / Responsibilities:
The Translator provides accurate translations of a variety of documents, from English to French, related to Moody's Analytics Learning Solutions (MALS) courses (textbooks, workbooks, exam items, HTML, Flash documents, etc.) as well as marketing documents (ads, websites pages, etc.).

Primary Duties:
  • Create, maintain and update Trados translation memories and MultiTerm termbase
  • Support and train translators in the use and different Trados functionalities
  • Ensure consistency of translation process across all our courses so that the same process is used for each project
  • Validate unchanged French content retrieved in Trados against existing textbooks and online content
  • Work with the Content Translation Specialist to keep close track of current projects and deadlines
  • Ensure effective communications with internal clients and contractual partners

Secondary Duties:
  • Translate and update documents on current economic trends/events and finance, within established time frames and in keeping with our profession's stringent quality standards
  • Conduct/validate any required terminology and documentary research
  • Maximize each text's effectiveness in keeping with client objectives
  • Use management, research and translation-assistance tools judiciously
  • Work in close collaboration with content experts who develop and revise courses
  • Clarify, when needed, with the originators of documents the original meaning, feeling and intent of text to be translated
  • Adapts translations as required according to subject matter and target audience in our French-speaking markets
  • Ensures that translations are complete and that there are no additions/omissions to the original text, the original meaning, or the original feeling and intent
  • Responds to ad hoc requests from various departments within tight deadlines and meets agreed to milestone dates
  • Attends meetings to brainstorm on writing projects and processes and to offer suggestions and recommendations for continuous improvement

  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Trados Studio, MultiTerm
  • MultiTrans
  • SharePoint

Qualifications:
  • Perfect mastery of French language
  • Knowledge of Financial Industry, Banking Industry, Securities Industry
  • Writing and research skills and a demonstrated ability to apply them to translation and content validation

Education Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Translation (English to French)
  • Ideally, membership (or plans to pursue membership) in OTTIAQ or another professional association

Years of Experience
  • 5+ years of experience in translation
  • 2+ years in a financial services role would be an asset

Technical Skills
  • Knowledge of and ability to use personal computers or workstations, office support tools (e.g., word processing, e-mail, presentation software and spreadsheets)
  • Proficiency in the use of Trados and other tools and applications commonly used in the language industry ( Trados Studio, MultiTerm, MultiTrans )
  • Fully bilingual (French and English)
  • Ability to achieve objectives and deadlines while working under pressure
  • Knowledge of financial services terminology
