Job Description

Role

Reporting to the Senior Director, Legal Affairs, Corporate and International, the Legal counsel will contribute to protecting CDPQ from legal risks and preserving its rights and interests while providing quality legal services to business units they are assigned to.

Main responsibilities
  • Support the Senior Director, Legal Affairs, Businesses, in executing her mandats.
  • Draft and participate in negotiating a wide range of agreement with clients, suppliers and strategic partners with which CDPQ and its international subsidiaries do business so the agreements comply with relevant Québec, Canadian and international legislation and protects the rights and interests of CDPQ, particularly in the sectors of information technology, procurement, partnerships with universities and business development.
  • Advise several business units in implementing the best strategies to achieve strategic objectives when negotiating commercial agreements.
  • Analyze and process legal questions, prepare legal opinions on commercial agreements involving the areas of cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, personal information and, possibly, individual working relations.
  • Coordinate, orient and supervise mandates outsourced to outside lawyers both in Canada and internationally, control the legal quality of legal acts, agreements and documents submitted so that they comply with relevant Québec, Canadian and international laws.
  • Review any legislative or regulatory provision applicable to CDPQ and under the responsibility of the legal team, and all projects likely to affect CDPQ and its policies; prepare memos and propose recommendations to that end.


Requirements
  • Law degree
  • Experience in commercial law and information technology
  • Experience in labour law may be an asset
  • Member of the Barreau du Québec
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of relevant experience
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
  • Full professional proficiency in French (spoken and written) and proficiency in English (spoken and written)
  • Good understanding of standard desktop computing applications
